Supplied map for TBR exhaust is rough cruising and has lean spot at full throttle at 6000 rpm that cannot be fixed with the power commander. Mixture problem immediately obvious on the EC997 with integrated
4 Gas EGA.
AP Table:
Maximum + change value is only +9. Or, if you are used to integrated EGA dynos, less than 2/3 of 1 main jet size possible enrichening at full throttle.
MMP Table:
Manifold pressure changes: Software allowed changes in Manifold pressure signal. Virtually no mixture changes when modified.
Was not able to record ANY changes in 4 Gas EGA readings or engine
smoothness (the LAST word in mixture selection) when doing changes to the
MMP Table.
Ignition Timing Map:
Ignition map - NOT even modified at all with "special TBR map"! Modified ignition map and improved part throttle power.
Tuning Issues:
Low speed / cruise mixture was poorly mapped and in the wrong direction on
this bike. Even when tweaked as far as possible in the correct direction, there's still not enough range of change available. That explains roughish
cruise with TBR exhaust on this bike.
Full throttle:
Not enough range in pc2 for proper tuning. The pc was unable to isolate a
1000 rpm wide spot, and any changes made at that rpm point overly
affected the neighboring rpm ranges.
Part throttle:
Not enough range to correct the lean surge with TBR exhaust. Cruise still
poor.
Conclusions - poor map supplied for TBR exhaust and insufficient range in pc2 for
acceptable tuning on the RC-51.
Note: This information, including ignition mapping, took a total of 2 hours and a standard EC997 dyno with integrated
4 Gas EGA. All the mapping tests were loaded step tests at steady rpm. Sweep tests delivered little useful information for mapping.
Other dyno companies have had virtually unlimited time to deliver a better map with their "model
250", but failed.

Marin French
Cheese Co., also known as The Cheese Factory and Rouge et
Noir is not just the oldest cheese manufacturer in the country,
but a vacationers and day trippers destination as well as
a unique part of American History. Located north of San
Francisco, east of Napa County, west of Pt. Reyes and Olema
and south of Sonoma County, Marin French has produced hand
crafted Artisan soft ripened cheese since 1865. Rouge et
Noir cheeses are similar to French and European varieties
but reflect the characteristics of Northern California,
producing it's own regional style.
The extension of the laboratory
for engines of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology was completed
in about 1935. Its architect was Rudolf Otto Salvisberg (1882-1940).
He had a successful career in Berlin but returned to Switzerland after
the advent of the Nazis. His architectural style was somewhat similar
to that of Erich Mendelsohn. The staircase of the laboratory is in normal
use but well preserved.
Edited to the tunes of Chemical Residue by Herbie Hancock.
Maybe in next rewrite, he'll fix the ignition timing
and dyno chapters...
Otherwise great book with great starting ideas.
